  1. Has someone ever played a role in your life? Larry LaSalle is the person who definitely played a role in Francis's young life. Francis believed he was rotten at everything until Larry gave him some hope. Larry was a role model for Francis. According to the text it states” You’re going to be a champion.” This means that Larry truly thought that Francis had talent and believed in him. Francis was a flower waiting to blossom because of his talent of table tennis. My parents are similar to Larry in a way because they are the people that have played a role in my entire life, just like Larry did to Francis. This is the role that Larry played in Francis’s young life.

Has a relationship had an important influence on you? Larry's relationship between him and Francis was very important for Francis because it gave him confidence in what he could be good at. According to the text it states " Its a sport your going to dominate with your quickness and reflexes." This shows that Larry gave Francis confidence with his complements to Francis. In social studies I learned that George Washington had an important influence on his soldiers while staying at Valley Forge, just like Larry had on Francis. George Washington gave his soldiers confidence to push through the freezing temperatures that were as cold as Antarctica. This is why the relationship between Larry and Francis had an important influence on him.

  2. Everyone has a role model when they are younger. Francis Cassavant's role model was Larry LaSalle. Francis looked up to him for advice. Larry taught him how to play table tennis and become a champion. In the book it say, "Larry was our hero from the war, yes, but he had been a hero to us long before he went to war." This shows that Larry was a hero to Francis and the rest of the kids of Frenchtown.

This relationship was an important influence on Francis Cassavant's life. This is because it influenced him to go into the war himself when he was fifteen years old. It encouraged him to be able to ask out Nicole Renard and to play table tennis. In the book it says, "Closing my eyes, I think of Nicole and how his first homecoming during the war changed our lives forever." This shows that Larry had such a big impact on Francis that he changed his life.

  3. Reflecting back on life, everyone has had a hero whom they looked up to. To Francis Cassavant, that individual was Larry LaSalle. In Francis’ life, Larry LaSalle played a role model, a super star, for Francis to aspire to be. As the text states on page 45, “He was our champion, and we were happy to be in his presence.” Based on the quote, Francis was in awe of Larry, and thought exceedingly high of him. Larry LaSalle was Francis’ superhero, miraculously flying in to save the day at any given moment. Throughout Francis’ childhood, Larry LaSalle was a mentor, hero, and friend in one. Larry LaSalle would be able to turn anyone’s personality around, and with a flash of a smile, Francis and the kids of Frenchtown would obey anything he said. Personally, an individual whom I look up to is my brother. Whether he is helping me with school work or doing miscellaneous activities; he is consistently acting as a leader, having the key qualities that I would like to possess. Characteristics such as courageousness, camaraderie, and composure are things that my brother has. Just as Larry LaSalle is Francis’ role model, my brother is mine. Larry LaSalle portrayed a monumental mentor and crusader in Francis’ life.
Having close relationships with others can help impact a person’s choices and decisions. The bond between Francis and Larry LaSalle was an important influence for Francis because it made him work harder and strive for further success. In the midst of chapter seven, Larry pronounces “I’ve been watching you. You have outstanding reflexes. You have a natural athletic gait”… “In spite of my doubts, my interest quickened. Larry LaSalle’s opinion could never be dismissed.” The conversation between Larry and Francis proves that Francis believed he could do more because of what Larry had said to him. Their relationship influenced Francis’ actions and motives on life. Another example of how relationships can influence people can be found between Stephanie Meyer, the author of Twilight, and her older sister, Emily. Originally, Stephanie was not going to try to publish her first novel, Twilight, but with the persistence and encouragement of Emily, she decided to send her book to numerous literary agencies. The sole reason to why Stephanie Meyer published her novel was because of the relationship with her sister. If Stephanie was not influenced by her sister, she would not have the number of accolades she has presently. Similar to Stephanie, Francis would not have been the table tennis champion if it had not been for the bond with Larry. The relationship with Larry was an important influence for Francis because it made him work harder and try to reach past his goals.

  4. Francis Cassavant drowned himself in a sea of possibilities. Francis needed to find himself a talent, something that would make him resplendent. Larry LaSalle threw Francis a lifeline that saved Francis escape from a sea of possibilities, and got him onto a land of reality. Larry LaSalle’s role in young Francis’s life was one of a mentor and a savior. Larry LaSalle’s observations allowed Francis to acknowledge his true talent: table tennis. Larry’s own ability to play table tennis was astounding and became inspirational to Francis. Larry was Francis’s mentor, Larry tirelessly gave Francis lessons in order to assist Francis in improving his performance. Larry was more than a mentor in Francis’s life, he was a savior as well. Larry saved Francis from feeling depressed about being unskilled by teaching Francis table tennis. Larry had been a savior in many of lives of the children who went to the ‘Wreck’ Center. In fact, Arthur Rivier states, “Larry LaSalle…the patron saint of the Wreck Center.” Larry LaSalle reminds me of Dumbledore from the Harry Potter series. Dumbledore helps Harry Potter acknowledge one his purposes in life: to “kill” Voldemort. This is similar to how Larry helps Francis acknowledge his talent at playing table tennis.
Larry did not only open Francis’s eyes in terms of talent but Larry LaSalle relationship was an important influence in Francis’ life, because Larry helped Francis gain self-confidence as well. After being cheered on while playing a few rounds of table tennis, Francis states,” Nobody had ever cheered me before.” From this quote, one can infer that Francis had felt proud of himself for being able to catch the attention of others, therefore allowing Francis’s self-confidence to increase. Francis reminds me of Martha Graham, a famous modern dancer who said that finding her talent in dance had helped to make her a more confident person. This is similar to how Francis’s talent at table tennis increased his self-confidence.

  5. His humble back did not bear a cape, but his heart sure did. Larry LaSalle played the role of both a hero and an idol in young Francis’ life. Larry was an idol in stature and appearance, but truly a hero in his doing of kind deeds. In the novel, it states,” A tall slim man stepped into view, a lock of blond hair tumbling over his forehead, a smile that revealed dazzling movie-star teeth.” Just this description of the astounding Larry LaSalle is enough to show why Francis would be drawn to look at Larry both as a hero, and an idol. Larry was the George Washington to Francis’ colonists. The colonists looked up to and admired Washington as a hero, just as Francis regarded Larry as a hero as well.
The feather is about to break the camel’s back, but a helping hand reaches out and grabs it. Larry had a huge influence on Francis. Before Larry, Francis never had any distinctive characteristics or was special. As Larry entered Francis’ life, he showed Francis just how talented and special he could be; especially at table tennis. Francis states in the novel, “I had never been a hero in such places, too short and uncoordinated for baseball and too timid to join the gangs.” Before the influence of Larry, Francis had very low self-esteem, this quote supports. Fortunately, Larry gave him some confidence, affecting Francis greatly. This situation reminds me of the amazing acts the Make-A-Wish foundation does for seriously ill children. They grant them one special wish, and with this wish comes confidence and joy. On some occasions, this abundance of confidence can lead to children beating their illnesses. In the same way, the boost of self-esteem Larry gave to Francis allowed him to bypass the depths and shadows of self-doubt.

  6. Has anyone ever been so generous to change your life? Larry LaSalle has. Larry LaSalle played the role of a teacher and a motivator for Francis’s life. He taught him how to play table tennis, and motivated him to be the best he could be. Larry was always there for Francis like a dedicated coach should be. He would practice with him, and they molded out to be like brothers because of all the time they spent together. On page 56, Larry pronounced to Francis,” Be here Friday, you’re going to be a champion.” This is revealing that Larry was driven to make Francis the best table tennis player in all of Frenchtown. Francis would be like a celebrity in Frenchtown. I have a brother named Mike and he loved to play basketball. His dream was to play in college. Mike was never a superstar, but was always the hardest worker. He got set back because of an injury and was not able to play for 8 months. Mike was motivated to get back on track and started working with a coach. He became the star for his high school for two years, and started to get some coaches attention. After more work, he got a spot on the team at Susquehanna University. His coach is like Larry LaSalle because they both motivated and coached their player to be the best.
Imagine if you could change your life in the blink of an eye. For Francis Cassavant, it was possible. The relationship between Francis and Larry is an important influence for Francis because it gives him confidence and boosts his self-esteem. It gives him confidence and higher self-esteem because he feels important in Frenchtown. On page 65, Francis says,” I heard them shouting my name. …… Suddenly I thought, maybe I could beat him.” This portrays that Francis is confident to beat a good table-tennis player, and people are starting to latch on to the “Francis Table Tennis Train”. His self-esteem rocketed as he heard the crowd chanting his name. This is all because of Larry LaSalle’s teaching and motivation. My brother’s relationship between him and his coach influenced him because now they will always be friends and Mike can tell people that that he achieved his dream with the help of his coach. Francis would be able to tell friends that he was the best table-tennis player also with the help of Larry LaSalle, his coach.

  7. He walked down the street, his blonde hair swept across his forehead and his “Broadway smile” so big. He was the owner of the new and improved Wreck Center. Every kid dreamed of speaking to him, and his talent was outstanding. From dancer to coach, he taught kids how to shine. Larry LaSalle was a perfect man, no flaw seen. Larry LaSalle played a role in young Francis’ life as a role model. Larry had given Francis hope. He showed Francis that he wasn’t rotten at everything, and proved that he was the table tennis champion. Francis looked up to him. In the text it states, “In spite of my doubts, my interests quickened. Larry LaSalle’s opinion could never be dismissed.” Larry’s opinions mattered to young Francis. Larry was important not only to Francis, but to every kid present at the Wreck Center. He brought out the best in everyone and gave them the chance to shine, as he did to Francis. Larry LaSalle was like a ray of light in a dark room, shining through the darkness, helping others and giving guidance. Larry LaSalle was like Martin Luther King Jr. Both Larry and Martin Luther King Jr. helped many people, giving hope and changing people’s views of things. Martin Luther King showed people that you can make a change, and helped the African Americans around the globe. Francis had been a shy, young boy before Larry. He was ashamed of his inabilities and was upset. After, Larry had proven to Francis that he was capable of doing things using his skills. Francis learned that he has talent and was content with who he was.
Even the shortest word, a smallest acknowledgment, can make a big difference. Even a small hello can make your day better. If someone’s having a bad day or facing a difficult problem, just talking to them makes their morale a little higher. Larry LaSalle made Francis feel better just by asking how he was feeling. Francis and Larry’s relationship was an important influence for Francis because he changed who Francis was. Francis became a happier person and had the courage to do anything he feared. Larry gave Francis the opportunity to talk to his love, Nicole. He also allowed Francis to be happy. As the text states,” He led the cheers, the hollers and whistles of celebration. Dashing to my side of the table, he pumped my hand, hugged me furiously, his ear close enough for me to whisper:”Thank you.”” Larry was kind to Francis, and did generous things for him. He even allowed young Francis to beat him in the table tennis championship round. Larry LaSalle is like a super hero in a comic book. Both Larry and a super hero change people’s lives for the good and do kind things for others. Larry was like a savior, shining over Frenchtown, bringing love and hope as he goes.

  8. Larry LaSalle played a very important role in Francis’ life when he was young. Larry taught all of the children dance at the “wreck center.” Francis was amazed at how well Larry could dance and he wanted to be just like him. Page 42 shows this by saying “He could tap-dance with machine gun speed and make daring leaps across the stage.” This shows that Larry was Francis’ idol. Without Larry, Francis wouldn’t be the person he is now, and he wouldn’t have joined the war. Although Larry was very important to Francis as a child, things have changed dramatically and now Francis wants to kill him.
The relationship between Francis and Larry was very important to Francis growing up. In a way, Larry represented a father figure to Francis after losing his parents. This was important because Larry gave Francis a person to look up to. In addition he got Francis to join more activities at the Rec Center. This was shown on Page 43 when Francis says “I finally joined calisthenics after Larry LaSalle made a speech urging everyone to participate in at least one activity.” Larry also helped Francis make the decision to join the war. Even though Francis may be angry that Larry convinced him to make that decision, at the time Francis was thankful.

  9. Renee s there or has there been a person in your life that you have look up to? Francis looked up to Larry LaSalle for many reasons. Larry was a role model to Francis, as well as someone who helped Francis discover a new talent a thrive. In the book, page 42, it says “Larry LaSalle had the broad shoulders of an athlete and the narrow hips of a dancer. He was both.” The author then continues to describe Larry’s many talents. This shows that Larry was a role model to Francis. He was someone that Francis could look up to. He also taught Francis how to play table tennis, a game that played a big part in Francis’ childhood. Larry LaSalle was a bright star in the dark sky of Frenchtown, in Francis’ mind.
Have you ever had a relationship that changed you or helped you? The relationship between Larry LaSalle and Francis was an important influence for Francis. Larry introduced Francis to table tennis, something that he was good at. Larry helped make Francis a more confident person. In the book, page 56, it says “Avoiding his eyes, I was suddenly angry with my self pity. Snap out of it, I told myself.” This is what Francis writes when Larry suggests that he may be a good table tennis player. This shows that Larry influenced Francis to come out of his shell and try something, even though Francis thought that he wasn’t good at anything. Larry was watering a flower, that would soon grow to be a more confident Francis, before the war.
In “Heroes”, young Francis looks up to Larry LaSalle, who also helps Francis grow. There is a similar relationship between Harry Potter and Dumbledore in the “Harry Potter” series by JK Rowling. Harry considers himself to be nothing special, just and ordinary boy, and Dumbledore helps show him that isn’t true. Harry looks up to Dumbledore as a roll model. These two relationships are similar.

  10. Francis looked up to Larry for many reasons. Larry was a hero in Francis’s and many other children’s eyes. Larry was like the big brother they never had, helping them and guiding them. On page 56, it states, “In spite of my doubts, my interest quickened. Larry LaSalle’s opinion could never be dismissed.” This shows that Larry was very important to Francis and the other children. He was their leader. A very important person in my life is my dad. He helps me and leads me on the right path. His words are smooth like butter, as if he’s practiced saying them a thousand times a day, yet they are also short and to the point. He gives me advice because he wants me to grow up and be successful in life. He is my Larry LaSalle.
This relationship was an important influence for Francis because it helped his confidence grow. Francis became more comfortable and confident when around others. On page 56, Larry says, “’I’ve been watching you, Francis. During calisthenics. You have outstanding reflexes. You have a natural athletic gait.’ He spelled out the word. ‘G-a-i-t. I think I have the perfect sport for you.’” This shows that Larry has boosted Francis’s confidence. In my life, my friends build my confidence. They tell me and congratulate me when I do something good and sometimes encourage me to do even better. They also tell me good things about myself to make me feel good.

  11. Most people when they’re growing up look up to someone as a hero, and that person has a big impact on their lives. For some people it is professional athletes, or people who have jumped great hurdles and still succeeded, but for Francis Cassavant, it was Larry LaSalle. He looked up to Larry for many reasons as well, but Larry was seen as a hero in Francis’s mind. “I’m rotten at everything.”’I confessed…… ‘I’ve been watching you Francis. During calisthenics. You have outstanding reflexes. You have a natural athletic gait.’ He spelled out the word. ’G-a-i-t. I think I have the sport for you.’” This conversation eventually led to Francis playing, and winning in the sport of table tennis. When Francis won in the final game against Larry, he knew Larry had let him win. As this did anger him, it also did something that he had been trying to do, catch the attention of Nicole Renard. In doing these things, Francis had looked up to Larry as a hero in his younger life.
When people look up to others as heroes, generally those people influence their lives immensely, as with Francis and Larry. After being assisted into playing table tennis, he became closer to Nicole. “’And I love to watch you play,’ she said. ‘You do?’ Disbelief cracked my voice. ‘You play table tennis like a dancer dances. The way you move. The way you hit the ball. Sometimes I hum a song, watching you play. It’s like you’re dancing to that song.’ For the first time in my life, a tide of confidence swept over me.” This conversation between Nicole and Francis not only shows how they became closer do to Larry but also how Larry boosted Francis’s confidence in himself. This led Francis to believe in himself and it would lead him to win the table tennis tournament. Basically, Francis and Larrys relationship turned Francis from the kid alone in the corner to the life of the party. Overall, Francis’s relationship with Larry made Francis’s life much better at that time in many ways.

  12. “’Ping-Pong is a game, table tennis is a sport. Known around the world. It’s a sport you’re going to dominate with your quickness and your reflexes”[Page 57]. With those words by Larry LaSalle to Francis Cassavant and some hard work on both of their parts, Francis became a table tennis superstar. The role that Larry LaSalle played in young Francis’ life was as his role model who made Francis known throughout Frenchtown as a table tennis champion. On page 56 Francis states, “In spite of my doubt [about having a perfect sport], my interest quickened. Larry LaSalle’s opinion could never be dismissed.” Francis believes this because he looks up to Larry in admiration like most Frenchtown boys. “[Larry LaSalle] led the cheers, the hollers and the whistles of celebration [after Francis won the table tennis game against him]” [page 68]. Never before had people cheered him on, so Mr. LaSalle’s doing was very special and made him feel proud. Everyone in the world likes to feel special and one often positively is remembered if they were the reason behind it. Larry was Francis’s idol and someone who gave him his first experience of pride during a day as the Ping- Pong champion.
This relationship was an important influence for Francis because this resulted in Francis’ first true interaction with Nicole and made him feel good about himself. Before meeting Larry LaSalle and becoming the table tennis champion, Francis was very dejected, claiming, “ ‘I’m rotten at everything’ ” [page 56] to Larry. In the news, one often hears of depressed teenagers, like Francis, who become violent due to self-pity over their ‘loner’ status. Thankfully, Larry saved him from going down this destructive path by reaching out and making him a Ping- pong victor. After playing table tennis, Nicole initiated an actual conversation with him and told Francis how she enjoyed watching him play like a dancer, which resulted in Francis claiming that “ ‘for the first time in my life, a tide of confidence swept through me’ ” [page 62]. Nicole was a shining light for Francis, which drew him out of his despair by making him feel happy. Larry’s relationship was important for Francis since it stimulated Francis’ relationship with Nicole, which, in the end, made him more self-assured and joyous.

  13. As a little girl my mom would bring me to a soccer field everyday. She would be my coach and help me shoot and learn skills. If it wasn't for her, i would not be on a good soccer team right now. My mom showed me what i am good at, soccer. What was Francis good at? The role that Larry Lasalle played in Francis's young life was a coach or a dad. Coaches teach you how to play a game and Dad's find the talent in you. In the text it states"he showed me how to stand: alert, leaning forward, knees bent, paddle in the right hand." This shows that he is teaching him like a coach. In the text it states,"I've been watching you, Francis. You have outstanding reflexes. I think I have the perfect sport for you." This shows he knows what Francis is good at. Pointing out that he has fast reflexes. It's an example of what a dad would do. In the book Anne Frank, Mr.Frank would always understand Anne. Anne could only go to her dad when she needed help, never her mom. After Mr. Frank survived the camps, he knew that Anne wrote in her diary. Because she was an excellent writer, he turned it in to get published. Mr, Frank knew her strengths.
Did someone do something that changed you life? or made you happy? Was it bad or good? Was Larry Lasalle a influence on Francis's Life? The relationship between Francis and Larry, influenced Larry Lasalle's life because Nicole Renard talks to him and he realizes that he is important. In the text it states, "My champion, leaning close that her breath was warm on my cheek." This shows that Nicole did actually talk to him and she was the love of his life. In the text it states,"Nobody every cheered for me before." This shows that Larry Lasalle made a change in Francis life from just a couple games of table-tennis. People were cheering and he felt important. In the movie, Coach Carter, the coach wants the basketball players to be successful. He does everything he can to look for their strengths and try to put it in a basketball game. In the end he is the best coach anyone can ask for.

  14. Francis serves the ball. It all starts with that first move. Just like Larry needed to make that first move towards Francis to find something he’s not “rotten” at. Larry LaSalle is an important player in young Francis’s life because Larry gave Francis hope and helped him discover a hidden talent inside of him. “You have a natural athletic gait,” he said to Francis. “You’re a natural, besides the reflexes; you have what I call sweet anticipation. It’s what natural athletes have, anticipating where the ball will land, whether its baseball, football, or table tennis”. Francis was spell bound by his words. I feel that it’s great that Francis is learning table tennis from Larry because many kids can feel in a state of despair from being lonely, or have much boredom in their life. Larry was Francis’s savior from having despair throughout the young chapter in his life.

We never hear about Francis’s parents, like they never existed. I think that this relationship with Larry is an important influence on Francis, because I feel that Francis looks to Larry as the dad he never had. “He continued to give me extra lessons at the table, and we played countless games against each other.” Larry said to Francis, “I’m not supposed to play favorites, Francis, but you and Nicole are special to me.” When children are in a position like Francis, where he has no one to look up to, they eventually find a parent that is a mentor to them. Usually, it’s a teacher, or neighbor, or a really good friend of your parent’s; maybe a best friend’s mom. In this situation, it’s Larry that guides Francis in a good direction. Larry is teaching Francis the skills of table tennis while giving comforting support.

  15. Larry LaSalle played a large role in young Francis’ life. He was a role model for Francis. Maybe even an idol. Larry LaSalle was the kind of person who could make anyone feel like they have a special role in life. Throughout the chapter, Francis explains how much Larry admires him and makes him feel special. Larry LaSalle was a coach to Francis and gave him advice. Larry could have been the parent Francis never got to know.

This relationship between Larry and Francis was a very important influence for Francis. This was so because of the connection that they had with table tennis and all of the encouragement that Larry offered him. On several occasions, Francis mentions the fact that Larry favored him and Nicole the most. This was also an important influence on Francis because Larry was a role model to him, someone he could look up too. Today, Larry might be to us, 8th grade students, what parents or older siblings are.

  16. The role that Larry LaSalle played in young Francis' life was Francis looked up to and learned from Larry like an older brother (Larry made Francis feel a lot better about himself). Before learning table tennis from Larry, Francis had a low opinion of himself: " 'I'm rotten at everything' I confessed. 'I can't sing. I can't dance. I'm not good at Baseball.' And I can't even get up the nerve to hold up a normal conversation with Nicole Renard, I added silently" (page 56). Because Larry felt bad, he introduced Francis to table tennis, as seen in quote, " 'table tennis,' he said. 'ping pong is a game, table tennis is a sport. Known around the world. It's a sport it's a sport you're going to dominate with your quickness and reflexes.' " (page 57). As a big brother would do, Larry taught Francis a new sport, (table tennis) which had a positive influence on Francis. Francis felt like a rotten apple. Then Larry took the seeds, watered them, and Francis grew into a strong tree that could only be taken down by it's farmer (Larry). We all have someone that we look up to. Everyone has a role model. Similar to Francis, Anne Frank looked up to someone. And that someone was her father, Mr. Frank. Mr. Frank gave Anne advice and increased her confidence in herself and the situation just like Larry did for Francis.
This relationship was an important influence for Francis because he was able to build up his confidence and talk to Nicole Renard. Thanks to Larry, Francis had a conversation with Nicole and afterwards stated, "For the first time in my life, a tide of confidence swept through me" (page 62). Therefore, Larry helped to initiate Francis and Nicole's relationship. Larry was the gasoline in Francis' car, giving him the drive and confidence. Most people have that premium gasoline in their life, and usually, that person makes who you are today. Kind of like Forest Gump and Lieutenant Dan in the movie Forest Gump. Francis felt saved and confident when Larry jumped in to help, well Forest Gump saved Lieutenant Dan on the battle field. In the end, the influence that that Larry had on Francis, shaped who Francis was later on in his life. Sk8 (04)

  17. Did you ever have someone that you always looked up to? Someone who had a great impact on your life? Francis Cassavant looked up to Larry LaSalle because Larry had a massive impact on Larry’s life. Larry played the role of mentor, friend, and hero to Francis. Larry taught at the “Wreck Center” where he made every kid feel special. For Francis, this meant making him a champion. Larry taught Francis the art of table tennis where Francis became a champion. Larry once said to Francis, “’It’s a sport you’re going to dominate with your quickness and your reflexes.’” Larry LaSalle also played the role of a positive reinforcement to Francis to help him grow as a person. This is similar to the relationship between Harry and Dumbledore in Harry Potter. Dumbledore taught Harry how to defeat the Dark Lord while still being his friend and his hero.
This relationship was an important influence for Francis because it gave him confidence to do things that he never done before. Take table tennis for an example, Francis would have never become champion if it wasn’t for Larry LaSalle. “He led the cheers, the hollers and whistles of celebration.” This shows that Larry was also very supportive of Francis and didn’t mind blowing a game for him to make him a champion. This influence is like the influence that Harry had on Ron in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Harry helped Ron out with quidditch and supported him even when he didn’t play that well.

  18. We all go through difficult times in life with school and sports. Decisions are made and we cant control our mistakes. What was Francis going through? The internal conflict that Francis had been in occurs because Nicole Renard tells him to go away. She gets very mad at Francis. In the text it state, "Go away Francis. Just go away." This means that Nicole is angry at Francis and Francis doesn't know what to do. He overcomes his internal conflict by joining the army. In the text it states, "I boarded the bus to Fort Delta, with my birth certificate i had altered to change my age and become a soldier in the Army." This means that he changed his age to be in the army rather than killing himself. In the book So.Be.It, the main character wants to kill herself from all the disability's she has. She decides to not kill herself. What she does decide to do is put her in a disability hospital. This relates to Francis situation because he was going to kill himself but chose a better idea same as the main character.

My opinion of his decision is that he did make the right choice. If he did want to die, the wrong decision was to jump of a building. I am glad that he didn't because it is a terrible thing to do. In the text it states, "I could not die that way. Soldiers were dying with honor on battlefields all over the world. Noble deaths. The deaths of heroes. How could i die by leaping from a steeple." Francis is trying to say that he would rather die in the war than from a church steeple. I agree with his decision and i am glad that he made it.
